Landergin Elementary School is named for Alice Landergin Nobles (1889–1928), a well-known Amarillo philanthropist remembered for her devotion to children, education, and community service. She was the daughter of pioneering Panhandle rancher Patrick H. Landergin, one of the region's most influential cattlemen.
Historical
Built: 1928
Architect: Guy A. Carlander

The school building is built from brick and has a clay tile roof. The front of the school has three decorative arched doorways.
Alice Landergin was known as for her charitable work, particularly with children. Beginning in 1917, she served as superintendent of the Primary Department at Central Presbyterian Church's Sunday School. She organized teachers and children's Christmas programs and was an original trustee of the Presbyterian Home for Children.
Marriage and death
Alice married Grady C. Nobles in 1920, and the couple lived in the Landergin House. They had no children. Alice died unexpectedly on April 8, 1928 (Easter Sunday) at the age of 38, after only eight years of marriage. Although she never had children of her own, she devoted much of her life to caring for and serving the children of Amarillo.
Why the school bears her name
To honor her legacy of compassion and service, Amarillo named its new elementary school after Alice in 1928, shortly after her death. The original brick school, designed by architect Guy A. Carlander, opened that year and remains open today as one of Amarillo's historic educational buildings.
