Neighborhood history

Olsen Park was one of Amarillo's major west-side residential developments during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Unit 17 was developed during Amarillo's post-war expansion and primarily attracted middle-class families. Many early residents worked in:

• Pantex
• Bell Helicopter
• Amarillo Air Force Base (before it closed in 1968)
• Southwestern Public Service
• Amarillo Independent School District
• Local medical and business professions
